On August 13, 2026 - Arjuna, the second Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) of the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel project, was officially launched.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remotely initiated the launch on site, joining TBM Nayak to accelerate construction on this landmark twin tunnel project.

The launch event was attended by Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, Chief Secretary Rajesh Agarwal, Cabinet Ministers Mangal Prabhat Lodha and Girish Mahajan, and MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee.

Both Arjuna and Nayak feature massive 13.34-metre cutter heads, making them the India’s biggest - diameter single-shield hard-rock boring machines in the country.

Operating 23 metres below ground beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, these machines are custom engineered to carve through solid basalt with zero impact on the surface ecosystem.
