India’s Largest Single-Phase Super-Speciality Hospital Built in the Government Healthcare Sector The Dr Marri Chenna Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar, was officially inaugurated today 17th August by Chief Minister of Telangana A. Revanth Reddy, along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, Roads and Buildings Minister Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MEIL Group Managing Director P.V. Krishna Reddy, MEIL Projects President K. Govardhan Reddy, senior government officials, and other dignitaries.
Executed by MEIL Group under EPC mode, TIMS Sanathnagar is the largest single-phase super-speciality hospital built in India’s government healthcare sector, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to deliver corporate-style care within the public system.
Spread across 22.6 acres on the existing Government Chest Hospital campus, TIMS features a total built-up area of 11.70 lakh square feet. The 1,082-bed facility includes 300 ICU beds, delivering a 30% ICU-to-bed ratio among the highest for any government hospital and one of the most advanced critical-care infrastructure developments in South Asia.
Unlike typical government hospital upgrades that unfold over decades, the TIMS campus was conceived, designed and constructed as a complete super-speciality ecosystem in a single phase under a unified master plan. This approach has enabled an integrated, future-ready healthcare environment that matches private facilities in both scale and sophistication.
The hospital is organised into four blocks and includes provision for 31 major and six minor operation theatres, along with a comprehensive diagnostics wing comprising 17 pathology labs, 12 microbiology labs, 10 biochemistry labs and five specialised labs.
Block A: Emergency services, 15 operation theatres, 30 ICUs and the Central Sterile Service Department
Block B: Main OP registration area, centralised pharmacy, cardiac OT, LINAC-based nuclear medicine ward and two cath labs
Block C: Radiology and pathological labs, general and private wards, and VIP suites
Block D: Administrative and academic facilities, including a 200-seat auditorium
TIMS is configured as a Centre of Excellence for organ transplantation, cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, nephrology and trauma care. It offers kidney, liver, heart and multi-organ transplant services, advanced cardiothoracic surgery, LINAC-based radiotherapy and 24x7 emergency services with ICU backup across 30 clinical departments. Advanced imaging facilities include a 3.0 Tesla MRI, a 128-slice CT scanner, an advanced mammography unit and five X-ray machines.
A standout feature of TIMS is its AI-aided Pneumatic Tube System—the first of its kind in government hospitals in India. The system uses sealed tubes and air pressure to transport blood samples, medicines, reports and critical consumables between wards, emergency, laboratories, pharmacy and the blood bank in 1–2 minutes. This significantly reduces turnaround times, minimises contamination risks and strengthens compliance with NABL/NABH standards.
Sustainability is embedded in the project’s design and execution. During construction, innovative techniques helped save 75% of water through green initiatives. On-site STP and ETP facilities treat sewage and effluent, while rainwater harvested in yard water sumps is reused for plantation and green corridors. The project has achieved an IGBC Gold rating for sustainable healthcare infrastructure, reflecting its energy-efficient systems and use of sustainable materials.
The construction phase recorded 3.5 million safe man-hours, underscoring MEIL’s commitment to zero major accidents and best-in-class occupational health and safety practices.
